Founded in 1979 with the approval of the State Council, Zhaotong Teachers College is committed to cultivating well-qualified teachers for both primary schools and middle schools. It is situated in the time-honored city of Zhaotong, a multi-national place, northeast of Yunnan province which is an important junction of Yunnan, Sichuan and Guizhou provinces. The beautiful campus covers a total area of 171.445 square meters including a floor space of 105,255 square meters.

Among its over 591 staff members, there are 314professional teachers including 93 professors and associate professors and 220 lecturers and some foreign teachers. After 26 years’ construction and development, the College has established a complete set of education system and education framework which incorporate full-time 3-year education, secondary teachers’ education and adult education as well. The departments offer 18 teacher-centered majors and 5 non-teacher ones. They are the departments of the Chinese Language, Politics and History, the English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Science of Computer, Education, Arts and Physical Education.

Since the founding of the College, it has turned out more than 10,000 full-time graduates as well as 3000 correspondence students and night-school students, most of whom are proved to be perfectly fit for their positions. At present, the College has an enrollment of 16,025 students, including 4165 full-time undergraduates.

The College boasts complete teaching facilities including 86 laboratories, 6 multimedia rooms as well as multi-functional language labs and piano-equipped classrooms. And recent years have witnessed a rapid development in the College’s network construction including the establishment of Computer Network Center, Campus Network Center and Long-distance Educational Network that is in a position to cover all the countries of the city. Moreover, Campus Network, Internet and Library Digitalization Management System are already in full operation. And the total library volumes have reached 400,000. The College is characterized by its distinct academic atmosphere. In 2004, The Journal ZTTC was included in China’s Academic Periodical (CD-version), China’s periodical Full Test Data Base and Chinese Periodical of Science and Technology Bas Data e and won the title of Outstanding Publication among college journals.

“High morality, devotion and seeking-truth-from-fact” has been the distinguishable style of the College. And in the spirit of fostering talented personnel for the country, the College attaches great importance to the advancement of science and humanity. It has received several titles of Advanced Unit at provincial or city level. In 2004, it was honored as The Advanced School at provincial level by Yunnan Education Bureau.

Non-degree Chinese language Study

1.Classes are divided into various levels including beginner, elementary, pre-intermediate, intermediate, and advanced and HSK Exam classes. In beginner and elementary classes, Westerners and Asian/Pacific students are separated, whereas in intermediate and advanced classes, they are mixed up so that they communicate with each other in Chinese.

There are usually no more than 10 students in each class.      

Curriculum: For non-degree program students, usually comprehensive Chinese, listening comprehension, oral Chinese, Chinese character writing, newspaper and magazine reading, Chinese culture and other courses are arranged; for Bachelor's degree programs, about 30 courses on Chinese language, Chinese literature, Chinese culture and Survey of China are offered.

How to apply

1. Please visit http://www.zttc.net for the online application. After completing the form, press the “submit” button to finish the application. After submitting the form, please confirm your registration by sending an email to wq2119@tom.com

2. The Institute of Chinese and International Studies (ICIS) of Zhaotong Teachers College will email the applicants when they are accepted. An authorized visa application form (JW202 form) and a Notice of Admission will be mailed through express mail service (EMS) to the applicants after it has been confirmed by both sides.

3.Students should apply for a Study Visa (X visa) or Visiting Visa (F visa) at a Chinese embassy or consulate close to you with the materials provided by ICIS and a

Physical examination report. Students should come to the university to register before the date written on the Notice of Admission.

4. If you cannot apply for a student's visa or a visiting visa for any reason, you can apply for a tourist visa (L visa) to come to our university. Our university will then assist in changing it to a student's visa (X visa) after you are registered at the university. The fee for changing a visa and applying for a residence permit is 400 RMB (within 12 months).

5. If your study period is less than 4 months, you should apply for a visiting visa (F visa).

Register

1. Please register at the Admission Office of International Students, ICIS with your passport, the Notice of Admission, Visa Application Form (JW202 Form) (if available) and four passport photos (about 35cm×45cm).

2. Students still need to complete the following. Details will be explained in the International Student Handbook.

Fill out/ Print out the registration form.

b. Check the validity of visa.

c. Pay the tuition fee.

d. Placement test.

e. Register your residence at the International Student Hotel or local police station.

f. Pick up class schedule, buy textbooks and Internet card.

g. Take Physical exam.

h. Change visa/apply a Residence Permit at the Admissions Office.

Note

1. If you are coming toZhaotong for the first time, we can usually arrange for you to be picked up at the airport or railway station for FREE, if we are informed of your exact flight/train details at least three days before your arrival. Such information can be sent to us through email or fax. Zhaotong Teachers College is about 5 kilometers from Zhaotong Airport, so it takes about 15 minutes and costs about 20 RMB (about $3.5 USD) by a taxi. If you cannot find our office, please call our office at 2139934. The International Student's Hotel is by the side gate of the main campus of our College

2. If you are a new student, you should register, pay the tuition fee, buy textbooks, ask for class schedule, apply for a resident permit at least five days before classes start and try to become familiar with the campus.

 Admission requirements

All healthy people who are willing to study at our university, follow the laws and regulations of China and the regulations of our university are welcome to apply to study t our university. There is no requirement for Chinese proficiency for students interested in studying Chinese language. For students who want to work for a B. A., a diploma from senior high school is required and for those who want to work for a M. A., a B. A. is required. International students whose Chinese level reaches Band 3 of HSK can apply to be M.A. candidates in sciences and engineering, Band 4 can apply to be M. A. candidates in social sciences or liberal arts and Band 6 can apply to be M. A. candidates in Chinese language. Those who have no HSK certificate can register first and take the HSK Exam later.
